"Science is about knowing, engineering is about doing" Henry Petroski
STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
The combination of all these strands, some of them, or just a focus on one, leads to an exciting, innovative, hands on, collaborative approach to learning, focussing on problem solving and creative thinking.
Students will have choices to make and will be encouraged to learn independently, having been taught the skills and knowledge required. Use of information technology and inquiry learning are key components of the programme, along with creating and making.
21st century learning skills like collaboration, self-regulation, communication and the use of computational thinking to solve problems is encouraged, explicitly taught and modelled.
The main idea in STEAM is learning by doing and having fun along the way.
